Binbin has a broken leg
We went skiing on Saturday 2/25/2006 at Nashoba Valley in Westford. This was the second ski trip for Binbin. We arrived at Nashoba at around 5pm to avoid the big crowd created by school vacation week.
We went to the beginner's area and I (dad) tried to teach Binbin the basics. The motorized rope was too jerky for small kids to handle, so I had Binbin stand between and grab my legs, then I hold onto the rope to climb up the slope. The first couple of runs went OK, however the third time we were in trouble.
The tricky thing with this slope is that you have to climb all the way up to the top where there is a narrow strip of somewhat flat ground, where you can walk away from the rope. This time the person ahead of us released the rope a little too early and he struggled to move away, we had to release the rope too to avoid bumping to him, the people behind us kept bumping to us because the rope kept running for about a minute, all of us struggled to keep our balance because we were standing on a slope. All of us fell and Binbin became the victim when he was on the ground with his legs in an awkward position and most likely the left leg got twisted and a bone broke.
Binbin's immediate reaction was "Daddy, I'm hurt, I wanna go home!". We summoned the Ski Patrol for help and Binbin was carried to a room where the medical staff inspected his leg. The initial diagnosis was "most likely a bruise". Binbin's leg was wrapped in a temporary splint and I took him home. Later we determined that we had to bring him to the Emergency Room to have X-Rays and examine the leg. The final diagnosis was a broken bone. His leg is currently in a splint while we wait the swelling to go down and on Friday I will take him to the orthopedic surgeon to cast the leg.
Binbin has been in good spirit and he is doing fine. He will be out of school for about two months.
